Exploring Brand Guides


 For my blogpost on exploring different brand guides I will be talking about Skype and how they are able to create and continue to expand such a successful brand. Skype has been a thriving brand for a very long time now and continuously uses their own brand guidelines to expand and make their company better and more appealing. This brand guide takes more than just their typical font and lettering seriously, their light blue colors are a staple along with a yellow and orange that add a nice touch to keep the brand light and fun. One cool thing that Skype adds to their brand is the sort of chalky word bubbles where chat information and messages can be seen. This sort of relaxed type of drawing also makes the brand seem light and fun. The brand has a nice mission statement which states “give the whole world the ability to make beautiful, lovely, clear and free calls” this is their main mission but also add some other quotes under their mission statement which are somewhat funny and enjoyable. These statements read “find people who charge for basic things like talking and peeing, and give them a kick in the shins” “say hello to someone you don’t know at least once a day (even if they are really miserable looking)” “make stuff simpler and easier, there’s enough useless buttons in the world already” this is all very appealing to the customer showing that they will be using a great app with a lighthearted sense of humor.
